Soup Kitchensoup_kitchen.jpg

Six days a week our soup kitchen is open to the public.  Caring volunteers prepare and serve, offering pleasant conversation along with the meal.  Those using the soup kitchen at Manna on Main Street often refer to it as their second home.  It is a place where they feel safe and welcome...a place where they can share a meal with their extended family.

Special meals are offered on the weekend and evenings. Community Dinners are hosted at by families, Scouts, church groups, business teams and other civic organizations.  The community dinners offer meals to individuals in need and also provide an avenue for service for members of the community.

Holiday dinners are also offered. Dinners are help on Thanksgiving Day, the Saturday before Christmas (our annual party), Christmas day, New Years day and Easter. Everyone from the community is invited to break bread with us and lend a helping hand.

Food Cupboard

Local churches, synagogues, schools, businesses and individuals donate perishable and non-perishable food pantry_2.jpggoods to Manna on Main Street. In addition, each year there are two major food drives: one in the fall by the Boy Scouts, and one in the spring coordinated by the Post Office. Families and individuals in need come to the pantry twice a month, or more often if necessary so that no one in our community goes hungry. Manna on Main Street also sends food to other local pantries when they are low on supplies.

With the community's support, Manna on Main Street provides coupons for free dairy products for older adults. The coupons are redeemed at Freddy Hill Farms on Sumneytown Pike in Lansdale. Each month senior citizens receive a gallon of milk, a dozen egss, a pound of butter and a half pound of cheese. This program has expanded to neighboring communities through partnerships with Indian Valley Opprtunity Center in Souderton and Catholic Social Services in Norristown.

Emergency Aid

Manna on Main Street delivers emergency financial aid to individuals who live in the North Penn area. Funds are provided for rent, motel stays, utilities and other emergencies. All money is sent directly to the landlord, utility company or medical provider. Funds are also available through our Summer Cool-Down program for senior citizens - we will prepay electric bills so seniors can run their air conditioners during the summer. To apply for aid, individuals call our aid line: 215-855-8241.  (click for pdf brochure)

Medical Assistance is also provided for prescriptions, dental work, physical exams and treatment, lab work and follow-up visits.  We enjoy partnerships with the Lansdale Health Center, Abington Clinic, Suburban Mercy Clinic, Central Montgomery Medical Center and Temple Dental Hospital. Funding is supported by our Florence Nightingale Award, a community fund raising contest for business and civic groups who want to give back to the community.

Youth Programs cooking_class.jpg

After School Snacks for kids: Every school day, over 150 children are served a healthy snack at the North Penn and Indian Valley Boys & Girls Club. These kids, from lower income families, are a part of the After-School Homework Program at the Club. Manna on Main Street provides the food, and volunteers assemble the bags of healthy snacks.

Every holiday season, Manna on Main Street offers its “Adopt-a-Child” gift program. Kids from low-income families are adopted by individuals and businesses so they might have new clothes and toys.

"Those People" is an interactive play presented to local schools, youth groups and churches, teaching tolerance and compassion for people in need. By teaching our youth about the lives and situations of people in our community, they get a better idea on needs and how they can help make a difference.

Each year, Manna on Main Sreet works with the local police departments to promote bike safety. We provide free bike helmets to all youth who need them. Lansdale, Hatfield and Upper Gwynedd police help coordinate helmet distribution.

On the third Saturday of August, Manna on Main Street hosts a picnic for disadvantaged youth and their families. Through partnership with the Lansdale Kiwanis, Plains Mennonite Church and the Salvation Army, we provide books, backpacks and school supplies.

Many young people are exposed to bullying and violence, and are not equipped to respond in a constructive way. Through our work with AVPE (Association for Violence Prevention Education)  Manna on Main Street provides uniforms and instructional materials for youth at risk for violence.

Summer Cooking for Teens runs for ten weeks. Young people learn the basics of cooking, food safety and nutrition. It is also a way they can help give back to the community. The class is taught by students from the Technical Career Center. All the meals are then served at Manna on Main Street’s Soup Kitchen.
